In the universe of Dispatch, superpowers are common. Because of this, in this universe's Los Angeles, many superheroes and super villains emerge. And the society here was divided in two ways: The "Supers," who were born with some power or another, and the "Normies," who don't have any superpowers.
But Robert Robertson the First proves here that one doesn't need superpowers to be a hero. He designs a mecha suit with his mechanical knowledge, in which he is known as "Mekaman Prime." Then this suit is inherited by Mekaman Prime's son, Robert Robertson the Second, or "Robby" for short. He also, with his rocket science education, makes much-needed updates to this suit and becomes a big name among Mekaman superheroes.
And at that time, all the cool superheroes had a group known as the "Brave Brigade." Right here, Robby had a normal friend named Eliot Connors. He was very proficient in cybernetics. And working with Robby, combining their knowledge, they create an "Astral Pulse" for the mecha suit, which provides portable and almost unlimited power to this suit. And with this new power source, Robby's mech gets the nickname "Mekaman Astral."
So, because Astral was the most popular superhero, he developed a god complex. And he becomes egoistic and arrogant. And Astral also doesn't pay much attention to his son, Robert Robertson the Third. Astral asks his superhero friend named "Track Star" (real name Chase) to take care of Robert. Because of which Track Star was like a big brother to Robert.
One day, Robert tries to tamper with his father's suit. The suit's laser fires towards Robert, and Track Star saves Robert in the nick of time. But in this accident, half of Robert's ear is cut off by the laser, and due to Track Star's speed, Robert's arm also gets dislocated. When Robert's father, Astral, sees Robert injured, he just tells him, like Heihachi Mishima, "Get up" or "Hurry up." And this line gets stuck in Robert's mind.
Right here now, in the Brave Brigade, Eliot, meanwhile, services all the Brave members' weapons, etc., and with his knowledge, he enhanced the capabilities of all the superheroes. And even though Eliot didn't have any superpower here, he built a cybernetic suit for himself. He also wanted to be part of the Brave Brigade. But Astral doesn't consider Eliot worthy. As he doesn't see any superhero in Eliot. Right here, even after Eliot wins the trust of all other Brave members, Astral blocks Eliot's entry into the Brave Brigade. And after blocking Eliot's entry five times like this, Eliot builds an enhanced cybernetic suit. He challenges Mekaman to a fight. But Astral doesn't want to waste his fuel on Eliot either. Saying this, Astral defeats Eliot here with just his punches. And Astral goes as far as humiliating and knocking out Eliot. Track Star comes in between this fight and stops Astral. And as Astral further humiliates Eliot, he covers his face with a cloth, which Astral threw like a shroud or a funeral cloth.
Right here, Astral tells Track Star why he hit Eliot so hard: "If Eliot wanted to be a hero, then thugs won't show him any mercy." And Astral says that if Eliot is truly a hero, he will come back to his work at Brave HQ the next day. But right here, Eliot, wearing that shroud, approaches Astral. And Eliot steals Astral's own revolver from his locker. Before Track Star can even understand the situation, Eliot shoots Astral in the heart, killing Astral on the spot. And from here, Eliot is arrested on murder charges. And he was in prison for 15 years.
What happened here is that Eliot starts building his gang in prison. By luring villains with the temptation of cybernetic augmentations using his knowledge, he recruits them all into his gang named "Red Ring." And after strengthening his army for 15 years, Eliot finally breaks out of prison, becomes a supervillain, and takes the name "Shroud."
Right here, Shroud now installs cybernetics in his skull, making his brain process data at superhuman speed. And Shroud creates a prediction algorithm for himself that can analyze all variables in real-time and tell him the most probable future outcome. And with this, in a fight, Shroud could predict his opponent's attacks in advance. But to power this enhancement, Shroud couldn't create a power source like the Astral Pulse. Because the Astral Pulse was created not by Shroud alone, but by Robert's father Astral working together. And because of this, Shroud uses temporary red power sources to power his cybernetics.
And after Shroud came out of prison, he wanted to steal the Astral Pulse from the mecha suit. But in these 15 years, Astral's son, Robert Robertson the Third, had inherited his dad's mecha suit and become the next Mekaman. And when Robert finds out that his father's killer is now free, Robert starts searching for Shroud. And from here, our game begins.
The Beginning of the Game
Robert, tracking Shroud, finds out the location of his factory. But upon reaching there, he finds out that Shroud himself wanted to lure Mekaman here. And it's a trap. Robert sees some anomaly through his broken suit. But Robert doesn't understand it yet. And he barely managed to escape this factory. But to Robert's surprise, Shroud had planted a bomb on the mecha suit here. And this bomb triggers mid-flight. Robert becomes unconscious. And he thinks the Astral Pulse was destroyed in the crash. And the mecha suit itself becomes non-functional from heavy damages.
And when Robert wakes up in the hospital and assesses the damages to his mecha suit, he realizes that he cannot rebuild the Astral Pulse. As Robert's expertise was in computer programming and hacking. Also, Robert had spent all his ancestral property on the upkeep of this mecha suit. And now Robert has no funds left for the research and development of a massive power source like the Astral Pulse.
So Robert calls the press and announces his retirement as Mekaman. Right here, after retirement, Robert sees some thugs looting a store. And as Robert was a hero even without having any superpowers, and a hero can't see a crime happening in front of his eyes, so even with his broken hand, he tries to fight these thugs, only to be overwhelmed by them.
Right here, Robert is saved by a hero named "Blonde Blazer," who tells him she has a business offer for him. Blazer brings Robert to a billboard of "Fenomena" and tells him that she is the branch manager of the SDS Torrance branch, and SDS stands for "Superhero Dispatch Network." And now in present-day Los Angeles, there were so many superheroes that a mega-company sells subscriptions for superheroes here.
And at the Torrance branch, Blazer forms a new team called the "Z-Team," which consisted of all ex-villains who are now rookie heroes. Right here at the Torrance branch, Robert's brother-like friend, Track Star, who used to babysit Robert earlier, was also working here. And he recommended Robert for this job to Blazer.
So, the job was this: Robert would dispatch and mentor the SDS Z-Team. In return, SDS would repair Robert's mecha suit with their funds, so maybe Robert could become Mekaman again. Right here, Blazer puts Robert through an SDS dispatch simulation, and Robert accepts this job.
Meeting the Z-Team
Now, the next day, arriving at the SDS office, Robert first meets "Waterman," who came to give an interview for a job at SDSN. And right here, Robert also sees "Flambé," who was once a villain. And when Robert was Mekaman, it was he who took down and got Flambé caught. And he was also now part of SDS's "Phoenix Program."
Right here, Blazer tells Robert to keep his mecha identity hidden. But in this very room, "Invisagirl" was also there, who learns that Robert is Mekaman. Blazer introduces Robert to Invisagirl and tells him that Invisagirl used to be a supervillain. And under the Phoenix Program, this SDSN branch is giving villains a chance to reintegrate into society.
Under the Phoenix Program, during Robert's bathroom break, Robert meets "Roy'd" here. Roy'd also knew that Robert is Mekaman. As Roy'd is an engineer at SDSN. And he will be the one trying to repair Robert's mecha suit.
Then Robert meets his brother-like Chase here, who used to be the hero named Track Star. So Track Star's powers were super speed. But using this speed caused Chase to age prematurely. And now if Chase uses his powers further, he will die. Therefore, Chase was working at SDS in his retirement.
Now Robert starts his first SDS shift. Where, as all were ex-supervillains, they make Robert's dispatching hard by not working together. Right here, Robert sends Invisagirl on a job. Using his superhero experience, Robert gives an order to Invisagirl which she disobeys, causing a supervillain to injure an SDS subscriber and escape. And right here, Robert understands that the Z-Team is a tough nut to crack. But Robert won't leave the Z-Team, and he will try to raise the low bar of this team.
Also, Robert finds out that Blazer was dating Fenomena Man. And at Blazer's request, Robert doesn't join them for dinner.
Now, the next day, Robert gives his mecha suit to Roy'd. They bring it to the SDS office. They both make a blueprint to fix this mecha suit. Then Robert gives the responsibility of taking care of his dog named "Beef" to Chase while he is on shifts. Then Robert meets Blazer in her office. First, Blazer tells him that she broke up with Fenomena Man. As Blazer was the one who left Fenomena. Then she says that one Z-Team member will have to be fired here, to let them know that to be part of this team, they need to improve.
And with this info about ranking, all Z-Team members try to sabotage each other to avoid being last on the leaderboard. And at the end of the shift, the three members who were at the bottom are: Sonar, Coop, and Invisagirl. And because Invisagirl was at the very bottom, she was scheduled to be fired from the Z-Team.
But as Robert talks to Invisagirl, Invisagirl tells him that with her power of being invisible, she can only be a villain. And Robert explains to her that "We create our own destiny." Right here, Robert gets another call about a theft. And it was the same villain because of whom Invisagirl's rank dropped. Robert gives Invisagirl another chance to redeem herself. And Robert helps Invisagirl at every step to stop this jewelry heist. Because of which, Invisagirl succeeded in catching this villain. And in this last minute, Invisagirl's ranking improves slightly from the bottom. So now the bottom were Sonar and Coop.
Robert now has to choose whom to fire from the Z-Team between these two. Coop was an assassin, and Sonar was a goofy bat who wasn't even that smart as a villain. I decided to fire Coop here, as I wanted to give Sonar a chance at being a superhero. But whoever you fire becomes very angry at Robert and SDSN. And they will end up joining the Red Ring, which was Shroud's group.
Building Relationships
Now, the next morning, Invisagirl has a dream about eating dinner with Robert. From this, we learn that Robert's motivating words have created feelings for Robert in Invisagirl.
After this, Rob tries to test a copy of the Astral Pulse made by Roy'd. But this test fails, and both understand that recreating a power source like the Astral Pulse won't be an easy task.
Then Rob reaches Blazer's office. Blazer was going to an SDS party. And Rob can tell Blazer that he can see her areola. Anyway, Blazer tells him that after her breakup with Fenomena, Fenomena was also fired from his other S-D-S-N branch. And Blazer sends Rob to talk to Fenomena. So, since we fired a hero from the Z-Team, Rob can recruit Fenomena or SDSN's janitor, "Waterboy," here.
And after talking to the depressed Fenomena here, Invisagirl also tells Robert about her spicy dream. And Invisagirl is down bad for Robert. And now the player can add Fenomena or Waterboy here as a replacement for the fired Z-Team member. And I chose Waterboy here because "no one else would." Also, if you choose Fenomena, due to his breakup depression, on some missions, instead of the assigned location, he will fly off somewhere else until he comes to his senses.
Now from here, the player can decide whom to choose as their romance partner between Invisagirl and Blonde Blazer. As I played this game only for Blonde Blazer, so I will forever be loyal and always choose Blazer over Invisagirl. But the devs knew this. And if you want the good ending, even then you can achieve a good ending by keeping a relationship with Blazer. But if you choose Invisagirl, the good ending becomes quite easy.
Also, going on a date with Blonde Blazer, she tells us that her real identity is "Mandy," and she is not naturally blonde. As Blazer's powers come from a prism, removing which makes her a normal girl, Mandy, who is a brunette, not blonde.
Now Rob's connection with the Z-Team was growing. And during his gym session, he remembers how he defeated Flambé. And thinking about how to tell this to Flambé, right now the Z-Team had a bet going on who could guess what hero Robert used to be first. Right here, while repairing the mech suit, Rob and Chase talk about Shroud. Chase asks Rob if Rob will kill Shroud for killing his father? And in this game, real heroes don't kill villains. So the more times you choose the "I will kill Shroud" option, the closer you get to the bad ending. So the right choice here is Rob doesn't lose his cool, and he says that even though Shroud killed his father, he will not kill him.
Now, after the dispatching shift, Robert meets all the Z-Team about villains. Where Robert opens up to Invisagirl and tells her he can't reveal his identity, as it was he who got Flambé caught. In the meantime, a supervillain here starts a fight with Invisagirl in this bar. And all Z-Team members together take care of all the villains here. This makes the whole team's bonding very good. And here, while eating late-night tacos, the whole team asks Robert about his hero identity. Where I revealed that he is Mekaman. Because of this, everyone opens up to us and tells their real names. But Flambé, learning our identity, leaves the Z-Team.
Now, doing another test of the mecha suit's power source. In the beginning, this new prototype Astral Pulse shows promise. But after a few minutes, this pulse also malfunctions, this time destroying the entire suit. Causing Roy'd and Robert to face injuries. And with this, Roy'd gives up here, believing that a power source like the Astral Pulse cannot be recreated.
The Astral Pulse Recovery Mission
And at Robert's flat, all Z-Team members arrive unannounced and have a party with Robert. And everyone reveals to Robert that Mekaman's Astral Pulse was not destroyed. Rather, this pulse was stolen by some B-grade villains. And with different villains' hands, from the blast of this pulse, the team could track the pulse's location. When Robert asks how come Shroud didn't know about this, in reply, Roy'd says, "Maybe Shroud, like us, kept thinking the pulse was destroyed." But now that knowledge of the pulse is out, Shroud will also want to collect this pulse soon.
And as more and more Z-Team members arrive at Robert's party, with their combined knowledge, they track the pulse to a secure warehouse. Invisagirl was very enthusiastic about getting this pulse. And she wanted to go alone to this tightly secured warehouse to get it. But the player explains that we need a plan. Right here, Chase doesn't trust Invisagirl. And Chase calls Invisagirl a liar, a criminal, and dangerous. Because of this, Invisagirl runs away from here. Robert goes after Invisagirl, and right there, Flambé punches Robert and forgives him. And he rejoins the Z-Team.
Now, after everyone leaves, Robert explains to Chase that Invisagirl is trying to change her destiny. That she thinks she will always be a villain. But right here, as Robert checks his PC, he finds that despite everyone refusing, Invisagirl went alone to the warehouse to steal the Astral Pulse. Robert helps Invisagirl navigate this base. And here, more and more villains arrive, all trying to steal this Astral Pulse. But among all these, Invisagirl recovers the case containing the pulse. But as she starts to leave, all the villains had stopped fighting by then. Then, after a power cut, Robert hacks the new cameras and guides Invisagirl again.
But by now, Shroud had arrived here. And Shroud surrounds Invisagirl in a smoke bomb. Invisagirl had a massive weakness: turning invisible triggered her asthma attacks. And this smoke triggers Invisagirl's asthma. And as Shroud leaves with the case containing the Astral Pulse, he leaves Invisagirl here to die.
So Chase, considering himself responsible, using his powers one last time, immediately saves Invisagirl and leaves her in a park. And right here, due to overusing his powers, Chase collapses. He was hospitalized and had gone into a coma. And Robert tells Blazer that as a kid, he used to make Chase use his powers even for bringing him Twinkies. And he also considers himself responsible for Chase's condition.
Right here, Blazer tells him that she has suspended Invisagirl. And the whole Z-Team also advises firing Invisagirl. But Robert says that "A team never abandons its people." Therefore, he doesn't fire Invisagirl.
Right here, in the locker room, Invisagirl apologizes to Robert and reveals to him why she was so enthusiastic about recovering this pulse. And she reveals that at the start of the game, when Invisagirl was a villain named "Invisabitch," she was also part of Shroud's Red Ring. And it was she who, at Shroud's behest, planted the bomb on Robert's mecha suit. But after this job, she left the Red Ring and joined the Phoenix Program. Robert forgives Invisagirl right there, saying she didn't know what was right at the time, as she was a villain back then.
But then Invisagirl says she also wanted to find this pulse because she wanted the love from Robert that he gives to Blonde Blazer. And Invisagirl tries to kiss Robert again. But as I'm loyal to Blazer, I refused Invisagirl from doing all this.
The Final Confrontation
Now, after leaving Beef with Chase, Robert goes to relax at a diner bar. Right here, Robert meets Shroud face to face. The Z-Team member we fired, out of revenge, knocks Robert unconscious with a punch. Right here, as Robert regains consciousness, Shroud, using Robert's father's revolver, asks Robert where the Astral Pulse is. But when Robert says Shroud stole that case, Shroud reveals that Invisagirl had already removed the Astral Pulse from the case. And Shroud thought Invisagirl was working for Robert. But now it turns out Invisagirl was betraying both Shroud and Robert. And Shroud thinks she is going to use this pulse to fix her asthma.
Right here, in this bar, Blonde Blazer arrives. She bluffs all the Red Ring members, saying all the SDSN superheroes have surrounded this bar. And if Shroud hands Robert over to her, she will let everyone leave from here. And as Blazer shows her powers, Shroud leaves with his team through the back door. And Blazer reveals to Robert that yes, she was bluffing.
Right here, as Blazer brings Robert to that billboard, suddenly explosions start happening everywhere in Los Angeles. As Shroud's gang, the Red Ring, started riots all over Los Angeles. Robert and Blazer reach the SDSN office, and Robert starts dispatching the limited heroes. And slowly, all the Z-Team join this fight. Fenomena Man also joins this team. But as I fired Coop from the Z-Team, she was leading the entire Red Ring here. And defeating her wasn't so easy.
And right here, the power goes out at this SDSN branch. And Robert first checks on Chase, then goes with Roy'd to his mecha room. There he catches Invisagirl. As Roy'd thinks Invisagirl, with the Astral Pulse, wanted to steal the mecha suit. But as Invisagirl says "You need her," seeing the Red Ring arriving on the cameras here, Robert frees Invisagirl, as he believes in her.
Right here, with the real Astral Pulse got from Invisagirl, Robert reaches his mecha suit, finally turns his mech on again, and joins this fight, saving Roy'd first. This is the premium package.
Right here, Shroud had also built a mecha suit for himself by now, which is this spider-like armor. With its engine, Shroud could predict everyone's moves at very rapid speed. Because of which, even Mekaman couldn't defeat Shroud. And Shroud starts to overpower Mekaman. Right here, the Z-Team arrives and saves Mekaman. But even the whole Z-Team together couldn't defeat Shroud because of his prediction engine.
And right here, Coop and Sonar, whichever you fired from the Z-Team, also challenge Mekaman. And Mekaman defeats this villain. Right here, Blazer, seeing Mekaman alone, also gets involved in this fight. Shroud, with a beam, knocks Blazer down to the SDSN HQ. And then again, as Shroud overpowers all Z-Team members and is about to kill Mekaman, Chase, as Track Star, rips off the prediction engine from Shroud's mech. And it turns out that Blonde Blazer had given her prism to emulate this, giving Chase her powers, enhancing his speed. And now he can fly as well.
And with the prediction engine gone, finally all Z-Team members together overpower Shroud. Mekaman, with a super spirit bomb, knocks Shroud down to the rooftop of the SDSN HQ. And as everyone was celebrating, Shroud takes Robert's dog, Beef, hostage. And to save Beef, Robert was ready to do anything. As he was his only family.
And as Robert reaches the top of the building, Shroud tells him to hand over the original Astral Pulse. And as the suit also had a duplicate or prototype Astral Pulse made by Roy'd, Robert picks up both Astral Pulses. And as Robert was going towards Shroud, Shroud reveals that he knew the dog was his weakness. And that Invisagirl was actually a double agent working for Shroud at SDS. And as we give the pulse to Shroud, Shroud won't need prediction. He could actually see the future.
Right here, as Robert thinks about giving the duplicate pulse to Shroud, Shroud says he will find the difference between the original and the prototype. But right here, Robert puts Shroud's theory to the test. Robert hands both pulses to Shroud. Shroud throws one pulse away and inserts the other into his socket. Immediately, Shroud gets immense powers, which he shares with his Red Ring army. But then suddenly, these powers stop. And Shroud had chosen the wrong pulse. Because of which, Shroud's prediction wasn't so accurate. And right here, all the Red Ring members also start vomiting. Because of which, the Z-Team detains all of Red Ring.
The Endings
And right here, the game's good and bad ending begins. In the bad ending first: Robert can't land the final blow on Shroud. Because Invisagirl kills Shroud with her knife. Then she picks up Shroud's mask, winks at Robert, hands him the real Astral Pulse, and disappears. Because of this, we couldn't reform Invisagirl. And maybe she remained a villain in the end.
But in the good ending, if you took care of Invisagirl at every moment and treated her well, then here, after Shroud loses, he shoots at Robert again with his father's revolver. Invisagirl takes this bullet on her shoulder. And through this window, Robert tackles Shroud and, punching him repeatedly, completes his revenge for killing his father. And from here, Robert can kill Shroud or hand him over to the police. And the hero route is to hand him over to the police.
Now, by morning, police and media arrive. Here you can also forgive Coop. As it was because of firing her from the Z-Team that she joined the Red Ring. And if you want, you can re-include her in the Z-Team. Which I didn't do, as I wanted to punish this Z-Team member for their crimes. Invisagirl, for treatment, is sent to the hospital in an ambulance. And Robert enjoys some moments with his romance partner, Blonde Blazer. Right here, Mr. Whiskey clicks photos of all Z-Team members.
And here ends Season 1 of Dispatch.
