Siren’s Kiss Episode 1 Recap

The episode begins with a chilling scene where we see an employee cut his fingers off, and the blood splashes over an insurance payout paper. The scene cuts and introduces us to Woo-seok, a police officer who is well known for arresting people who use a human’s life to earn money. He finds the man who mercilessly made employees amputate themselves for insurance money. After his arrest, Woo-seok isn’t appreciated but is questioned on why he would run behind these scammers.

We then see him get notified about a child’s condition, and he rushes to the hospital, only to find her badly bruised. We soon learn how selfish the child’s mother is because she’s already planning on buying a car with the insurance money she received for her daughter. Woo-seok threatens the woman, stating that he will get her into jail.

A flashback then shows Woo-seok’s sister’s insurance money going to her husband, and it’s evident he is the one who actually killed her. However, the legal system doesn’t punish him, and this is why Woo-seok is determined to catch such frauds and put an end to them. On the flip side, we are introduced to Seol-a, an auctioneer with a cold demeanour.

She is extremely popular for selling off pieces at a high rate, and her colleague Yoon-ji is very jealous of her. After a splendid auction, one of the rich clients, Joon-beom, meets Seol-a and talks to her. He asks her whether she remembers him, but she lowkey pretends as if she doesn’t. Right then, Yoon-ji comes and introduces herself to Joon-beom, and he insults her. The insult triggers her, and she meets Seol-a and promises that she’ll get revenge.

Yoon-ji then calls Woo-seok and tells him that she has intel on a huge insurance fraud. When Woo-seok arrives at the spot, Yoon-ji’s body falls from the building’s terrace, causing panic. She dies, and Woo-seok wonders what she was about to tell and who found out about it and murdered her.

During the investigation, he finds Seol-a suspicious and digs into her. He learns that her fiancé, Seung-jae, passed away, and his insurance money of 700 million won was actually written for Seol-a. However, before his death, he actually cancelled the insurance, and this makes Woo-seok think Seol-a is quite evil.

He then visits her and mentions Seung-jae to trigger her. He tells that she looks happy after receiving the compensatory 200 million won, to which Seol-a states why would one kill their fiancé for such a mere amount. The episode comes to a close as the two stare into each other’s souls. Additionally, we also have a small glimpse into who pushed Yoon-ji, and it is indeed Seol-a.

Siren’s Kiss Episode 1 Review

Park Min-young never fails to give the best acting that’s out there. From the moment she was introduced till the end, her cold demeanour was on point. On the other side, we have Wi Ha-joon back as a cop baddie ’cause we last saw him in such a character in Squid Game. The story seems really unique, and this is something that’s currently going around the globe.

Hopefully, the following episodes continue to thrill us and not fail. So far, so good, and hopefully, we see more action and jigsaw puzzles than romance because that might flip the vibe.
